Snow Cave Remains Closed for the 2026 Season

We regret to inform visitors that the Snow Cave will remain closed until further notice due to damage at the entrance and the risk of a cave-in inside the udornica (a type of cave formed when the roof of an underground chamber collapses, leaving an open vertical shaft).

The safety of our visitors is our highest priority. For this reason, access to the cave is currently not permitted. We kindly ask all hikers passing near the site to respect the warning signs and remain outside the safety fence, as the ground in and around the udornica is still unstable and further cave-ins may occur.

The cave was severely affected by the storm of August 2023. Large volumes of water flowed down the logging trails above the cave and cascaded into the udornica, melting the permafrost layer and triggering a cave-in. The water also carried substantial amounts of soil into the cave, causing significant damage to the staircase leading to the entrance.

We will keep the public informed of any progress and look forward to welcoming visitors back as soon as the cave can be reopened safely.
