We inform all visitors that Snow cave will remain closed until further notice due to damage at the entrance and the risk of a cave-in inside the udornica (a type of cave formed when the roof of an underground chamber collapses, leaving an open vertical shaft).
The August 2023 storm severely damaged the cave entrance. A large amount of water flowed down logging trails above the cave and fell like a waterfall into the udornica, melting the permafrost layer and causing a cave-in. The water carried a significant amount of soil into the cave and damaged the staircase leading inside.
Due to safety concerns, entry into the cave is currently not permitted. We kindly ask all hikers passing near the cave to respect the warning signs and not cross the safety fence, as the ground in and around the udornica remains unstable and further cave-ins are possible.
We will keep the public informed about the progress of repair works and hope to reopen the cave to visitors once it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
